Alicante Airport to Javea and Moraira: The Northern Costa Blanca Run

Alicante airport to javea transfer

Quick answer:

Javea and Moraira sit at the far northern end of the Costa Blanca, about an hour and a quarter from Alicante Airport. Neither has a railway station. A private transfer is €150 to Javea and €145 to Moraira, fixed for the whole vehicle. Public transport is possible but involves at least two changes and most of the day.

The stretch of coast past Calpe is where the Costa Blanca changes character. The high-rise skyline is behind you, the roads start winding, and towns like Moraira, Benissa and Javea feel a world away from Benidorm even though they are only 40 minutes further on.

That distance is exactly what makes arrival planning worth doing properly. Here is how the northern run works.

Neither town has a train station

This catches people out, because the narrow-gauge line from Benidorm does run north towards Dénia. It does not, however, stop in Javea or Moraira.

The nearest stations are inland, at Gata de Gorgos and Teulada, and from either of those you still need a taxi for the final stretch. So even the rail route ends with a road journey, after you have already changed trains at least once.

Add the airport bus into Alicante at the start, and a realistic public transport journey is four hours and three changes. It is cheap, and on the right day it is a pleasant ride, but it is not a short trip.

Private transfer prices

These are our published one-way prices from Alicante Airport, for the whole vehicle rather than per person:

Benissa and Pedreguer, slightly inland from this stretch, are priced the same as Moraira at €145. If your destination is not on our list, send us the address and we will quote it the same way.

Javea is really three places

Worth knowing before you book, because it affects where you ask to be dropped.

The old town sits inland, built around the church and the Thursday market, and it is where Javea feels most Spanish. The port is a working harbour with the fish auction and a line of seafood restaurants. The Arenal is the sandy beach strip with the bars and most of the holiday apartments.

They are a few kilometres apart. “Javea” on its own is not an address, so give us the street, the urbanisation or the hotel name and we will take you to the door.

Moraira and the villa problem

Moraira is smaller and quieter, and a large share of its accommodation is private villas spread across hillside urbanisations like El Portet, Benimeit and Moravit.

Those addresses are not always obvious to a driver who has never been there, and phone signal in the hills is not always reliable. Send the exact address when you book, and the villa name if it has one. It is the single thing that most reduces the chance of a frustrating last ten minutes.

How long does the drive take?

Around an hour and a quarter to either town in normal conditions, mostly on the AP-7 before dropping down to the coast.

In high summer, the final stretch through Calpe and Benissa is the slow part. It is also the pretty part, with the Peñal d’Ifac on your right for a good few minutes.

What about flying into Valencia instead?

For this part of the coast it is a genuine alternative, and sometimes the flight is cheaper. Valencia is a longer road journey, so our price is higher: €225 from Valencia Airport to Javea, Moraira, Calpe or Dénia.

Compare the two before you book flights. If the Valencia fare is €80 cheaper per person for a family of four, the longer transfer still leaves you ahead.

Common questions
